I am so tired of Twitter, you can't even copy videos anymore because they've cut off all aspects of third party tweeting. I'm close to done. Spoutible just started today and it's something a lot of us need to invest in. Social media with the user in mind. Creating the same spaces for fandom, fun, politics, debate, and even disagreement, but with safety measures in place to keep people from death threats, doxxing, abuse, and other shenanigans from trolls and racists. I know a lot of people love Twitter and want to stay "until the wheels fall off" but at this point I feel as if they already have. You should look into Spoutible, it's available to the public starting next week.

Fukk twitter for this noise. But also, I hope all your readers share an article here and there. I don’t like to inundate my feeds with stuff like that but a link here and there I think gets some attention, and your writing for sure deserves to be shared. Hope business (and visibility) picks up, H.

I feel your pain. Twitter is an absolute mess. My views have dropped by 90% on Twitter for everything I post. My views per followers is now only about 1% and interactions maybe 0.01 or less of a percent.

I have a few thousand followers, but it is still like just posting into a void.

I see people with only a few hundred followers with far more views and interaction, it is very frustrating.

There is no doubt that Twitter is fucking with the algorithms in ways that screw over folks like you, and me. The constant struggle of having to flip back to seeing the posts of people I follow from what Twitter would prefer I see is not only annoying, but causes harm to small content producers.

One alternative to beating the algorithm shift is getting your followers to share your work. It's an onerous task, and often seems pointless. I am going to try to make a point to RT every time I see you post links to your writing here.

I refuse to pay Musk's $8 a month, as does the media outlet I write for. While I do not object to idea of such a fee, I do object to funding anything Musk does due to his ideology. It's a bit too much like buying something from the people who would burn you at the stake--you're helping supply them with the wood and accelerant they will use to end you!

I post to Twitter all the time, and seem to have no problem. Some posts are from Facebook, others from my website's blog page, a few YouTube videos, and of course, Substack. I was banned several years ago, when leftist censorship policy cancelled many of us... but am reinstated now, and it's been okay (though I'm pretty controversial). Hope ya work it all out.

Hoarse, please don't give up. People like Mr. Twit can't hold on forever. Eventually karma will pay them a call.

I just subscribed. I planned to from the beginning but it seems my wallet was always elsewhere when I needed it. I'll also share this with my modest number of followers. Good luck to you.

For the past few weeks, I literally NEVER see your posts in my feed. I have to go to your page to view what you've been posting. This is true of most of the major accounts that I follow. I see posts from accounts I have never interacted with before instead. And tbh, I don't spend much time on Twitter anymore. I'm on Post some, but it has some growing up to do before I'll really like it. Anyway, that said, you gotta make a living. If the $8 for the blue chit will help you do that, don't be a hero, just pay the damn fee and see if it gets you anything. You don't have to keep paying it if it doesn't. If anyone thinks less of you for it, that's on them. You have to take care of you.

So, Twitter blocked that post with the link? Some how blocking or limited access until you pay up? Dick move.

Vent away! Sometimes you have to cough up the hairball to make room for the solution stuff.

Twitter has this new thing at the top called "For You" and "Following". I always click "Following" cuz I don't want Twitter deciding who I should see. It replaced the old selections of "Top Tweets" and "Latest Tweets". But I don't see many tweets of people I do follow. I rarely see yours. One of the reasons I started doing free subscriptions (for now) with Substack is because I'm not seeing tweets of the people I like to read. I don't give a fukc what MTG, Boobo and Jordan say and they always show up if I don't switch to "Following".

Hoarse, along with some others I follow, now only shows up in my For You section. My list of those I follow has been bifurcated into Following and For You. And some have been left out entirely so I have to go to their own timeline to see anything. What a clusterfuck.

After much hemming and hawing, I finally deleted my twitter account late last year. The algorithmic changes in my feed since Mr Sink took over were swift and staggering. In the end I simply got tired of seeing the same three things trending every. single. day: EM, TFG, and/or vaccine disinfo. You were one of the only bright spots on that blighted platform. I'm rooting for you in your new career, but wonder if you may be putting too much pressure on yourself to live *solely* on income derived from writing. Virtually every writer, actor, designer, or artist I know has a side job or jobs—especially those with children. Every personal finance book I've read recommends multiple streams of income, both for wealth-building and for security in case one stream fails. The inability of one income stream to support oneself does not constitute failure. Just food for thought as you navigate your new path.

I never see your posts on Twitter anymore unfortunately. I find myself more and more bored with Twitter everyday and spending less time there as a result of it. So much nonsense coming through my feed. I wish someone would come up with or morph into the same format as Twitter... so we could all permanently migrate there.

I also have a small account but will repost your material also. Good luck to you!

I noticed yesterday that I was not getting recent tweets by people i have followed for a long time. I went to each followed person's twitter home to see if they had been shut down or left and no they are all there tweeting as before but none of it showing up in my feed. Some I had to refollow! Twitter is a mess right now. I am not wanting to leave it because it feels like giving in to the guy who hates us all. The haters don't need another venue full of their own echo chamber. They have others. Twitter was a pretty good, inclusive democracy as it were until the new owner. I will stick it out for now and just make a habit of looking up my faves. I am also on Post and soon Spoutible.

I got someone else's newsletter today, and it reminded me that she says she gets the most conversions from free to paid subs when she posts her weekly "What I read and loved this week." Free subs get to read her intro but the links are paid only. Maybe you can drive more conversions with some paywalled content. This other writer also comps people who can't afford a sub, no questions asked.

Agree with Aileen's comments below about IG. I ran my own small business for years and the marketing advice was always "don't rely on someone else's platform." It was 100% accurate; I always had the most sales by far when I sent out info via my own newsletter, rather than posting on FB or Insta.

You've got an ad/marketing background so you're way ahead on the learning curve for promoting your work. Twitter's current nonsense is just a blip. From one comms person to another: You got this.
