Mike -- I read both parts of your fine Archibald Ayres Drake saga over Christmas weekend, via emailed newsletters I'm glad I saved. They weren't too long, nor agnonizing.
I scrolled past a paragraph or three here and there, but you diligently uncovered a compelling tale with a satisfying coda, and the imagined mutterings entertained. I hope you post an edited version, as it deserves to be read more widely.

Following his ouster . . . McCarthy (R-CA) traveled abroad again, this time to England, and expressed his open contempt for the white Republicans who make up the majority of the GOP and praised Democrats for their diversity during a debate at Oxford in the wake of his ouster as House Speaker . . .
Is he now running for the Prime Minister of the U.K.?
Nevertheless, he is free to go on media tours bashing white people and lobbying for Israel, because he has now resigned from the US House of Representatives . . . I can only conclude that the collective RINO butthurt over former Speaker McCarthy is all about the Israelis who have hijacked the American deep state war machine.
It has become so painfully obvious, especially where you have someone like Nikki Haley wagging her finger and shouting down Vivek Ramaswamy in a presidential debate on live national television when the questions of this Ukrainian war against Russia and any mention of Israel are concerned, that the United States government has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Israeli Political Action Committee.
So thanks for self-editing your work. It is YOUR work, after all, and you get to do whatever you see fit to do. You are a great writer.

I liked it a lot and described the situation excitedly to my wife. I keep finding ties between us, which unsettle me a bit. I tracked down the hero of this story, and grew up pretty near there. I'm pretty sure we live about a mile from one Panera you described. Looking forward to reading, and thinking about, more of what you've got to say.
I read the pieces and while the eventual story itself is good, I don't disagree with you because it took too long to get there. Tighter, with less setup and teasing about what you're *about* to tell us. It's like listening to director's commentary before watching a film.
Also, "...the Pellet’s or Osborn’s or Armstrong’s. By the Hill’s though…" Apostrophes aren't for pluralization. :P
