Thank you! That made me laugh at the end of this crap week I've had, the one that went so wrong it shat up the entire first week of a special thing I've been really looking forward to. I am hoping I'll be able to successfully fight off the rising floodwaters that are now threatening to overrun next week as well.

Just wait until you are a grandpa. All the extra love that was hidden somewhere comes alive and those grandkids are forever sealed in your heart.

Get better soon or write some more hilarious shit about not getting better. Either or but mostly get well.

Bless you. I’m not a writer but the idea of going to a quiet hotel for a few day by myself sounds wonderful. I’ve been in hotels with ball kids. It’s miserable. And then to end off with golfers. It is funny but also terrible.

Thanks for the good read😎Do you have a place to live permanently?? Or do yiu do the best wring not at home?

Sorry “you” and “writing”

I found myself also wondering about not writing from home for a moment and then had a memory of how, in college, I did my best studying and work away from my room - empty classrooms were my best places to work - easier to focus there. I get it. (or at least I can relate)

Oh man, I feel for you and your son!

May your bug vanish and not travel to another host and may the knee situation stay uneventful.

Looking forward to your writing again.

Did you wear a mask during this outing? Because if you had a contagious illness and you went to a few hotels and interacted with people without a mask then you are knowingly spreading that contagious illness. I’m hoping you just forgot to mention wearing a mask but if you were maskless then wtaf?

Ma’am, I had a mild summer cold which I aggrandized a bit for effect. Transmission of the common cold typically requires 1) close or prolonged contact; with 2) someone coughing or sneezing to aspirate infection into the air.

My contact was neither close nor prolonged - and I was neither sneezing nor coughing. I was briefly in a well-spaced lobby bar in a soaring space with good ventilation.

Not sure if you make a habit of presumptuously scolding other adults but if you do, you should consider stopping. It comes off as privileged and obnoxious.

Also very well written Mike. Love the “Ma’am”.

That earned several laugh out louds from me - and before 10am - so thank you. I find it hysterical that in telling us about not being able to write you wrote such a great piece. Don't be so hard on yourself. Feel better soon!

How is it I could see the commotion of the Little League Softball families in the halls of that hotel? What a few days! This piece showed the brain fog is clearing, Hoarse. Can't wait to hear more!

You did make me laugh, though I feel for you. Great to see your sense of humor still intact. Feel better soon!

I've said it before - YOUR disasters are our entertainment! Fingers crossed for your son & for your sake, not ours, I hope your life settles down a bit ...

Sorry you’re not feeling well....feel better soon. Also hope your son’s knee will work out without surgery. As far as the hotel story....😂😂

Well, Sir.... You managed to give us a damn fine story about the fates conspiring against any kind of story at all. Nice laugh to start the week. Thank you.

Just for ref. I saw some discussion on Twitter about the "not testing positive for COVID" virus:

(I posted this before I go back to finish reading - just wanted to find the tweet while I was thinking about it)

I hope you feel totally better soon.

Mine was just a mild summer cold after a couple of weeks of being overtired. It’s already pretty much gone. Just took some sleep.

CH (K)'s avatar

That's good. Amazing what just getting more sleep can do when you're fighting off an illness.

“And that was just the parents.” That made me laugh louder than is most likely legally allowed 😆

You and me seem to have caught the same bug.

Been down with fever, cough and especially a persistent brain fog ever since the day I returned from Berlin 7 days ago when I moved my son there - who had this bug on moving weekend.

Obviously gave it to me, during the week I gave it to my husband and last night my daughter started. None of us were covid positive.

No way I would have been able to write a piece like yours; I’m struggling with composing a coherent comment 😵‍💫

Be well, my fellow brain fog friend.

Hoarse Whisperer's avatar

I was being a bit dramatic. No fever. Just a cold which was here and gone in a couple days.

Sorry you and the fam have been sick! Hope everyone is back up to full speed soon.

Hope you all feel better and your son is enjoying his training.

My son was competing in a state tournament and I wanted to be in the audience. The competitors were all staying at the state college dorms, so I booked myself a room at a name brand hotel nearby.

After visiting with my son and his teammates I drove over to the hotel. Seemed OK, quiet. I took he elevator to my room and noticed that the room right across the hall was X crossed with police tape. It read Do No Enter. I was too tired to find another place, but there was no noise from across the hall neighbors that night!
